Raid 2 OTT Release: Ajay Devgn's Crime Thriller

Ajay Devgn is back in action as IRS officer Amay Patnaik in Raid 2, the much anticipated sequel to the 2018 hit Raid. Directed by Raj Kumar Gupta, this crime thriller continues the theme of income tax raids and white collar crime, with a fresh storyline and cast. The film hit theatres on May 1, 2025, and after a successful box office run, it is finally available for streaming.

The movie picks up seven years after the events of the first film. Amay Patnaik, known for his integrity and fearless work in the Income Tax Department, gets transferred to the town of Bhoj in Madhya Pradesh. His mission? To bring down Dada Manohar Bhai (played by Riteish Deshmukh), a corrupt yet publicly adored politician.

With support from his team and his wife Malini (Vaani Kapoor), Patnaik dives deep into the hidden world of black money, facing multiple challenges including a brief suspension. The climax teases the possibility of a third installment with another antagonist waiting in the wings.

About the Movie

Raid 2 retains the serious tone of the original but adds more drama and political intrigue. The film explores how Amay, despite being transferred 74 times, never loses his commitment to justice. Riteish Deshmukh plays the villain with surprising restraint and depth, while Vaani Kapoor steps into the role of Amay's wife. The storyline touches upon themes of power, morality, and public perception in the face of systemic corruption.

The production spanned several locations across India, including Mumbai, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Delhi. The visuals are sharp, and the background score adds to the tension, particularly during key raid scenes. While some sequences may feel stretched, the overall experience is intense and engaging.

Reviews

Audience reception has been mixed to positive. Many praised the performances, especially Ajay Devgn’s return as the no nonsense officer and Riteish Deshmukh’s layered portrayal of a villain. Several viewers called out standout scenes like the "Paisa Paisa" sequence and cameos by Amit Sial and Saurabh Shukla. However, a few felt the film lacked the gripping urgency of the first and had unnecessary songs that slowed down the pacing.

Critics noted that while Raid 2 follows a familiar template, it still manages to keep viewers invested. Some appreciated the film’s subtle humour and dialogues, while others felt the screenplay could have been tighter. The movie has its flaws, including a slightly weaker villain arc and a predictable ending, but it remains a solid onetime watch for fans of the genre.
