The Telugu movie Arjun S/O Vyjayanthi is now available in OTT. Directed by Pradeep Chilukuri, this action-packed drama brings together a stellar cast led by Nandamuri Kalyan Ram and the legendary Vijayashanti. The central theme of this movie is that of mother-son emotional bonding. This movie has received mixed reviews.
Movie Plot
Arjun S/O Vyjayanthi is a spiritual sequel to the 1990 blockbuster Karthavyam, in which Vijayashanti played the role of an honest IPS officer, Vijayanthi. In this newest installment, she reprises the role of Vyjayanthi, now a retired police officer. Arjun, the role played by Kalyan Ram, is a hopeful IPS officer who, due to some unforeseen twists and turns, becomes a soft-hearted gangster. When a notorious terrorist, Mohammad Giyazuddin Pathaan (acted by Sohail Khan), sets his mind to avenge his against Vyjayanthi, Arjun steps up for his mother and is on a deadly mission.
The film combines swift action scenes with a strong emotional underpinning, with a particular emphasis on the relationship of Arjun and his mom, Vyjayanthi. The tense narrative, although centered around action, also speaks to sacrifice, loyalty, and how far one would go for family. However, although the narrative features a typical mother-son relationship, the film is problematic in terms of pacing and the climax, which disappointed some.
Review
Arjun S/O Vyjayanthi is a mixed bag and its strengths and weaknesses are evident in equal measure. The good is that both Vijayashanti and Kalyan Ram have delivered remembered performances, with the maternal and filial emotional scenes worth noticing. Their relationship, combined with Kalyan Ram's evolution from aspirant to gangster, rings true to many.
Action sequences in the film are disappointing. While the overall plot of the story, many critics found the fight scenes to be unrealistic and poorly choreographed. The script too falls below par, with a linear plot without the needed turns to sustain the interest of the viewer. The climax has been viewed as a "disaster" by some with many viewers opining that the film failed to live up to expectations in accordance with the high standards against which it was brought.
In spite of all these imperfections, the film has been credited with its emotional intensity and high-energy performances. While considered old-fashioned by some and not logical, to others, it's an entertaining film for individuals who wish to have a straightforward action drama.
